In a Crisis, Protein Could Become More Precious than Gold

[Hoarding gold and silver against economic catastrophe can give us peace of mind. But in times of true crisis, there are some things that will be even more valuable to our survival than bullion, as the following note reminds us. The place I looked to see how to be prepared for a dollar collapse was in the journals of the pioneers who settled the frontiers in North America two to three hundred years ago. When moving to an unexplored region inside the frontier, and being months of hard travel away from any civilization where the necessities of life could be purchased, is basically where we all will be when commerce stops because of a dollar collapse.

Bartering works good, but money was not very valuable, even gold. The people needed a place to live that offered protection from the weather, water and food. Everything else was and is a luxury. The people who had the talents of building shelters and producing food prospered and those that came with family money either died or went home broke.

So what I took from this is, be prepared to use your hands. Surround yourself with good, honest people who have talents in the many life-saving areas needed to survive any circumstances that may be thrown at us. Raising chickens, making bread, treating sickness, making a garden, a carpenter, etc. You will know what you need for your area.

I am a rancher and produce enough beef to feed approximately 6,000 people. But having to do that without cheap fuel, fertilizer, and life-saving drugs for the cattle, I will produce much less. But protein is one of the necessities needed to survive and something the pioneers treasured. If you succeed and prosper as our great country makes its comeback, you will have moved up the ladder of social and economic ranking. Survival of the fittest, and we will be rid of all those who live off of government aid. So don’t be caught with just a lot of gold and silver when the collapse comes. Sell some and buy the tools you will need to survive so you can use the metals latter when civilization returns.

      Though the article title is ‘somewhat misleading’ and discusses overall ‘survival’, not just the worth of protein…there are SEVERAL nutritional items that are often overlooked by even the BEST survivalists. I know, because in terms of ‘day to day survival’, even in the most-remote areas, I’ve always been knowledgeable and well-equipped. What I found, however, is that I aged (now in my 60′s), I found that trying to ‘prepare for surviving’ in a land with poor nutrition’, it gets MUCH HARDER as you get older. Your body isn’t efficient anymore. It doesn’t extract nutritional elements anywhere near as efficiently as it did when you were, say, 25 or 30.
      To this point, and having a bad medical turn a few years ago, I realized that A LOT of the pain I was feeling was a result of poor nutrition (almost to the point of being anemic of MANY nutrients). Some of the nutritional items are NEVER spoken of in the press, either! They’re hard to find, hard to get enough of, and hard to stock! One of the greatest hidden nutrients you take for granted that is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to get enough of daily is POTASSIUM! The reason: Your body doesn’t absorb it well as you get older, and you need SO MUCH OF IT! 4,700-milligrams a day!!!! Yeah, you can buy those 250-mg tablets over-the-counter…but is it Potassium Gluconate or Potassium Citrate? Well, that 250-mg is actually THE WHOLE tablet…of which only about 99-mg is actually Potassium! (1/47th of your daily required…

        (gotta love truncation, without the warning)….
        Anyhow…Potassium is hard to find…with the highest amounts in TOMATOES…but Sodium is often found with it…and your body, being lazy, will hold the Sodium and flush the Potassium (really bad, too…as you get older or have digestive problems).
        I finally found a moderate regime to follow, to make sure I get the nutrition I need…and blood tests by my doctor confirms I’m on the right track. A high-quality ‘daily multivitamin’, like Centrum Silver; 500-mcg Vitamin A, 100-mg Vitamin E, and 1000-IU Vitamin D-3 (if you don’t get enough sunlight, or live in a high latitude area).
        It’s also good to have 500-mg of Vitamin C and 50-mg of Zinc (those last two, only take when you feel a cold or flu coming on, as they work with A and D-3 to quickly get you healthy again…and eliminate viruses fast).
        This simple regime (a good Multi, A, D-3, and E…with C and Zinc sporadically) will REALLY COMPENSATE for a ‘bad diet’ when ‘times are tough’. As for Potassium being so hard to find in usable forms in sufficient quantities, I use a powder called Keto 1000…add it to any drink mix (koolaid, gatorade, lemonade, etc.) and you can’t even tell its there taste-wise…but it makes a BIG difference, nutrition wise! Then all you need are proteins, carbs, starches and fats (regular food)!
