Introducing Organic, SusTainable Luxury From the Nuhni Blanket Company

Every once in awhile, I come across a company whose mission just speaks to me. Nuhni Blanket Co. is one such brand. Their mission and business practices are definitely something I support, 100%, and I am looking forward to telling you all about this wonderful brand. 

I actually discovered this company on twitter. Well, they discovered ME, I suppose. I received a tweet asking what I thought about hemp. First, I had to do a double-take. It’s not every day I am asked so bluntly what I think of a material made from a very controversial plant, that just happens to be illegal in several places. (That’s changing, though, and it’s about time!) 

.Then, I checked to make sure this was a real company and not law enforcement. Then, I replied with the truth: I am in complete and total support of hemp, and everything else surrounding it. Take that for what it’s worth, because I won’t say anything more until November, when I will be heading to the polls in support of Ohio legalizing hemp’s “Mother Plant”. 

If you’re not familiar with hemp, I’d love to properly introduce you. You see, hemp is incredibly versatile, and can be used in a variety of ways. (No, you won’t get stoned using most hemp products!) Hemp is fast-growing, sustainable, and has has natural, anti-bacterial properties that kill and reduce deadly germs. This makes it an ideal textile for things like clothing, towels and linens, and even cloth diapers! Hemp’s many uses don’t stop there, though. You can also find paper and stationery made from hemp, as well as personal care products like lotion, and it’s even incredibly nutritious, too! Yep. This ONE PLANT can change the world, thanks to its versatility and sustainability. It’s time to get over the stigma, folks.

I can SO relate. 

You see, I had my first child when I was almost 19, and in an incredibly abusive relationship. I can definitely relate to the fear, lack of confidence, and lack of resources young mothers experience. I remember how scary it was to pack up my child and my belongings, leaving my abuser forever. I remember being scared that I would never succeed or be able to care for my child. It’s a pretty helpless feeling, so whenever I see a company supporting young moms, it makes my heart happy. 

Now on to the fun part….Nuhni Blanket Company’s oh-so-gorgeous blankets! I was sent a couple of beautifully crafted blankets to check out for myself. Sure, Sophie and Xander aren’t really “babies” anymore, but what little kid doesn’t love a nice cozy blanket? Mine still do, so they were super-excited when our package arrived in the mail.

Sophie received a Little Paws Pika Security Blanket in the feminine Pink Bloom print. This blanket is smaller, at 17″x17″, and is the perfect size for a little one to tote along wherever they may go. It also makes a perfect “Mini-Cape”. More about that in a bit, though. 

Xander received a Little Paws Receiving Blanket in the adorable Elephants On Parade Print. Seriously, folks….How stinkin’ cute is this blanket?! I absolutely love the rich blues, yellows, and greens used in this blanket. While it is labeled as being a boy’s design, I think this is beautifully gender neutral, and would make a fantastic addition to any jungle or animal themed nursery. 

The Receiving Blanket is generously sized at 25″X35″. This is an ideal size not only for swaddling infants, but also for smaller children to snuggle with on the couch. 

Here are Sophie and Xander with their blankets, so you can get an accurate idea of the sizes of these products. Remember, my littles are 4 and 5, but they are kind of small for their ages. (What can I say….The kids are screwed. Dan and I are both vertically challenged, and I fear my babies will end up short, too!) 

These blankets are incredibly well-made, and are durable enough to be taken outside the crib or bed. My kids love heading to the backyard, wearing them as capes. Yes, my children are a bit weird sometimes. We love them, anyway! 

If the blankets get dirty, I won’t fret. In addition to having naturally anti-microbial properties, these babies are also machine washable. I haven’t washed these just yet, but I am very familiar with organic cotton and hemp, and if my past experience with these materials is right, these will just get softer with each wash. Added softness is a wonderful thing, don’t you agree? 

My kids are absolutely nuts about their Nuhni blankets. Not only are they soft, snuggly, and eco-friendly, they are also adorable. Xander is in love with the Elephants On Parade print, and he carries his blanket around everywhere. Guess I have a little Linus on my hands. You know what? That is totally okay with me. Kids are innocent and precious, and being a “Blankie Kid” is something that he will look back on affectionately one day when he has a family of his own. Who knows? Maybe he will even pass his Nuhni Blanket Company blankie on to them someday! 

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my introduction to the Nuhni Blanket Company. I am very passionate about everything these awesome folks stand for, whether it be creating eco-friendly, high-quality blankets from the most sustainable materials around, or supporting kids and mothers who need a helping hand to make a better life for their families. It simply doesn’t get any better than that. 

Good things start on twitter, apparently. I for one am happy to have found such a wonderful brand to partner with, and I would definitely recommend their products for the little ones in your life. These blankets would make the perfect gift for baby showers, too! 

My only complaint? They don’t make blankets big enough for adults! I would totally rock one of these stunning blankets on my Queen size bed if I could!
