The Best Investing Apps for the iPad

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Now that Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) highly anticipated iPad has made its way to the hands of early adapters, it’s only natural that investors are looking to the next generation tablet as a solution for on-the-go investment research. And although the iPad is still new enough that dedicated iPad investing apps are somewhat limited, we’ve taken the time to sift through the app offerings to find the best iPad investing apps on the market.

Investing Apps for the iPad

Here’s a glimpse at the must-see investing apps for the iPad…

When Apple’s iPhone originally came out back in the summer of 2007, traders were intrigued – after all, could this tiny device become a full-featured mobile trading platform?

As popular as investing apps on the iPhone have become, the increased screen real estate of the iPad makes Apple’s newest offering a significantly more attractive option for the trader on the go. The iPad is still a new product, and as a result, it doesn’t yet have the bevy of finance applications that the company’s other mobile products sport.

Still, these Ipad investing apps provide investors with a pretty significant amount of data – and they’re definitely worth a look:

1. Daily Reck (free)
We may be a bit biased in our recommendation of Daily Reck, Agora Financial’s exclusive application for the iPhone and iPad. Daily Reck gives readers the ability to check out all of their favorite publications – including the Penny Sleuth – without having to wait for websites to load. And best of all, Daily Reck is available from the iTunes Store completely free of charge.

2. Bloomberg for the iPad (free)
We were big fans of Bloomberg’s free app when it came out for the iPhone – and we’ve even bigger fans of the iPad-optimized version. Bloomberg’s app provides stock information and portfolio tracking like so many others – but its most significant feature is the company’s news feed.

3. NASDAQ OMX Portfolio Manager (free)
NASDAQ’s portfolio management app features a visually impressive portfolio tracking function with the ability to watch investor education and news video feeds. While NASDAQ OMX provides an iPhone version of this app, the company’s iPad version is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of graphics and usability.

4. Thompson Reuters Marketboard (free)
Market data provider Thompson Reuters has created a winner in its Marketboard app, which delivers a very cool visualization of what the market’s doing throughout the trading day. Like most other investing apps, Markeboard also provides users with basic stock quote information.

5. Stockwatch iPad Edition ($5.99)
This full featured market and portfolio tracker supports more than 50 exchanges, letting you keep track of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, futures, options and more. It also features full screen technical charts – something that could come in handy for one of our Monday penny stock watchlists…

6. Stock TickerPicker ($14.99)
While this app is on the high side of the price spectrum, its advanced technical analysis features make it a interesting platform to take a look at. Most importantly, this app has support and real-time price streaming for over the counter stocks.

7. iQuant EOD ($5.99)
iQuant EOD is a novel iPad application that provides over 70 technical indicators directly on your device for any stock you choose.

8. Your Broker’s Trading App (Typically Free)
Scores of brokers – including Thinkorswim, TD Ameritrade, and E*Trade – offer investors their down dedicated trading apps that feature real-time stock prices, portfolio tracking, and actual trading. But since trading is restricted to clients with accounts, the usefulness of these apps isn’t universal…

If you’re a new iPad owner, feel free to test drive these investing apps for the ipad and let us know which one you think is best in breed. (iPhone owners can too by visiting our list of the 20 best Investing Apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch) And remember, if you think we missed an investing app that you just can’t live without, be sure to let us know in the comments…
