These events formed the background to Russia’s annexation of Crimea in March 2014 and the War in Donbass during April 2014. The War in Donbass was a conflict with Russian-backed separatists, culminating with the current Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Dr. John J. Mearsheimer gave a series of three lectures in November 2017 on the topic of “Liberal Ideals & International Realities” for the Henry L. Stimson Lectures on World Affairs at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale. Dr. John J. Mearsheimer is an R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago.
