We have not confirmed 100% that this boat was spraying dispersant. From the research that The Intel Hub and others have done, it DOES look like it was spraying Corexit, at the very least we have proven that the boat is equipped with sprayers.

“What is unique about these is that they have sensors on board that help the skimmer detect the presence of oil, benzene and hydrocarbon,” she said. “It’s also outfitted with high-powered sprayers, so if the city of Ocean Springs ends up using a nutrient concoction to spray into marshes in case they are inundated with oil, we will be able to do that from this boat.” Link

Wake Up From Your Slumber

Natural gas is scented with a nasty smell so we can tell when there is a leak. This warns people NOT to breathe it. HOWEVER, the chemical dispersant (Corexit) is scented with a sweet smell from the 2-butoxyethanol, which isn’t perceived as a dangerous smell. This sweet aroma would cause more people to willingly breathe it in on shore, unalerted to the danger in their air.

OSHA describes 2-butoxyethanol’s odor as a “mild, pleasant, sweet, fruity”. Corexit 9527, the MOST TOXIC and DANGEROUS oil dispersant compound, contains 2-butoxyethanol. The video shows an unmarked boat with two huge barrels attached to it, with a sweet odor surrounding the vessel.

Corexit (neurotoxin pesticide) has earned the highest EPA warning label for toxicity EVER. Not only are they spraying the gulf everyday, but over the general public around beaches, bays, and swamps areas.

2-butoxyethanol (CAS 111-76-2) does the following:

Irritating to eyes, skin, nose, throat; Cough, nausea, drowsiness, headache, redness of eyes, eye pain, blurred vision, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, CNS depression, hemolysis, hemoglobinuria.Targets eyes, skin, respiratory system, central nervous system, hematopoietic system, blood, kidneys, liver, lymphoid system.

SHORT TERM EXPOSURE: Irritates the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Can depress the central nervous system and cause liver and kidney damage.

LONG TERM EXPOSURE: Exposure may result in blood disorders.
