W. Virginians Told, 'Drink This!' (SEE PHOTO) Would You? (SEE NEW FREEDOM MUSIC VIDEO)

Erin Brockovich has posted a photo of a West Virginian’s bathtub with water in it Thursday night, showing how foul it looks.

“The people of West Virginia have been advised to drink this!” Brockovich Tweeted. “Would you?”

Just as foul as the water in the state is its politics.

The guys at Freedom Industries have made sure they did their share in lining the pockets of the very people telling residents to drink the poisoned water.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Shelley Moore Capito all have received campaign donations from executives with connections to the company at the center of the Elk River chemical spill.

Who gave those donations? Freedom Industries’ Dennis P. Farrell and J. Clifford Forrest.

In traditional West Virginia style, Roy Zimmerman’s song below encapsulates Freedom Industries.

Freedom Industries’ Dennis P. Farrell and J. Clifford Forrest, The Gazette reports Thursday.

Freedom’s chemical leak has sent hundreds to emergency rooms and left an untold number of others poisoned. They remain in their poisoned homes where the chemicals have stuck to the inside of their water pipes.

Instead of, “Let them eat cake,” Gov. Tomblin basically said, “Let them drink the water – if they want to.”

Today, organic chemist Dr. Yuri Gorby stepped up to the plate, telling Before It’s News what the government should have advised and what he is telling West Virginians.

Dr. Gorby, an independent scientist, gave the following eight potentially life-saving pointers:
  1. Avoid all contact with the water.
  2. Wear rubber gloves at the very least.
  3. Do not breathe the fumes.
  4. Turn off the power to hot water heater.
  5. Turn off all faucets.
  6. Use other water even for flushing toilets.
  7. If the latter is not an option, close the lid after using the toilet – before flushing.
  8. Flush, leave the room, leaving the fan on.

One of only light shining on this disaster is by West Virginians, who are opening their kind hearts, their yards for people to get water, diapers for young moms, their spirit to keep those in most need going…. Salt of the Earth, among America’s finest these people here.

If this image was uploaded just last night, it would appear that the leak is still ongoing. Or is this discoloration the result of tainted pipes?

Sorry, I see this article is dated Wed. 1/22, which would mean the image was tweeted a week ago yesterday.

Absolutely vile. Are we benefiting from fossil fuels yet?
Seriously, this is the latest of a continuing series of assaults on the people of West Virginia in the name of helping the economy. Studies have shown that fossil fuels have never been a net benefit to the people. If you factor in the horrific health effects, the people have been victims of an imperialism as vicious as the third world. Adding in the environmental effects, which impact also on us, like burying thousands of miles of streams, and it gets worse. As they go after deposits that are harder and harder to get, the damage rate will get higher and higher. How long will it take us to elect legislators who will regulate the fossil fuel pirates out of business and replace them with renewables like solar, wind, and geothermal? The jobs are safer, and the fuels are far, far cleaner.

“Are we benefiting from fossil fuels yet?”

And what rock are you living under. If it were not for “fossil fuels” aka oil you would not have your big screen TV, your I-phones, PC, laptops, Xbox, motor cycle, car, plane, boat, can opener, coffer pot, etc, etc, etc, etc,. Everything you touch & take for granted on a day to day basis is possible because of so called “fossil fuels”.

As for W. Va the people who did this should be pushed from a tall tree on the end of a short rope!

Right on re your last comment.
We probably agree more than your initial response suggests.
The early fossil fuel era certainly had its benefits, although at a cost, like all the mining deaths, horrendous health effects, wars for oil, etc.
If we had followed scientists’ and others’ recommendations in the 80s when the easy deposits were running out, and started switching to renewables and green chemistry, we’d have been off them by 2000. That’s not just a global warming issue, as the repeated poisonings of hundreds of thousands of people makes clear. Some of those poisons have mucked up our gene expression, and will affect us for generations.
The timing here is important. By 2000, as predicted by energy economists, we had picked enough of the low hanging fruit that we had to start going after the more dangerous, environmentally hazardous fuels – and a lot more of it, because global demand had skyrocketed. We began piping and shipping huge quantities over very long distances: multiple leaks overland, and shipwrecks like Exxon Valdez. We started drilling much deeper wells, including offshore: Blackwater Horizon. Mountaintop removal: destruction of thousands of miles of streams, forests, and the lives of people in the afflicted areas. The explosion of fracking: massive pollution of groundwater and streams, enormous water depletion, and injection of gargantuan amounts of wastewater, causing earthquakes. And tar sands: wrecking an enormous area of Canada, whose inhabitants are just out of luck.
The increased pipelines, rail transport, and refineries added entire regions to sacrifice zones where no one should be living anymore, like in south Louisiana.
And as the stakes got higher, the industry stuck its neck out further and further, and had to corrupt governments more and more. Now we’re stuck with a US government whose military is devoted mostly to access to fossil fuels, other mineral resources, and recently even farmland.
None of this had to be this bad. Still doesn’t. Probably will continue to be, until people are hurting enough.
