As a general rule, the most successful man in life is the man who has the best information

 

Islet cell transplantation is the only known therapy that can reduce or eliminate the side effects associated with many diseases. A search has been on for an alternative site for islet transplantation as well as for an optimal medical device in which to implant the islets. Several subcutaneous devices have previously been developed for islet transplantation but from a preclinical and clinical perspective the results from these products have been generally disappointing.

 

Currently there is no approved device to house and protect therapeutic cells in the body – cell therapy is limited to expensive procedures, poor cell survival and inappropriate delivery as well as a lack of available donors.

 

Sernova is a Phase I/II clinical stage company developing medical technologies for the treatment of chronic debilitating metabolic diseases (Diabetes, Hemophilia, Parathyroid, Parkinson’s) to replace proteins or hormones in short supply within the body.

  

Sernova Corp. (TSX.V-SVA) has developed the subcutaneous Cell Pouch™ specifically designed to overcome the issues with previous implanted devices for cell transplantation. Sernova’s extensive preclinical safety and efficacy studies have shown this device to be both safe and effective, while being sparing of islets, supporting its design and function.

 

I’ve been talking about, and buying shares in Sernova since June of 2009. Yeah that’s right, almost five years.

 

And right now I’m as excited as when I first heard about SVA’s potential disruptive life changing technology.

 

Why?

 

Well it’s not the fact the Cell Pouch works in pigs and rodents, it isn’t the fact its bio-compatible and safe in humans.

 

Its Kevin Egan joining Sernova’s advisory board. And he didn’t just join the business advisory board – he’s going to be the head guy, he’s going to drive business development.

 

Over the last little while Sernova has surrounded itself with some serious key players (Frank Holler, Nick Borrelly, Kevin Egan). Here we’ve got guys who kicked around Sernova’s technology for months before getting on board with us.

 

Frank Holler even went so far as meeting with two of North America’s most respected islet researchers in the world whilst performing his diligence on the science, including a meeting with Dr. Shapiro in Edmonton.

 

Kevin Egan might be the key though, he would have to be considered the ‘Wayne Gretzky’ of the pharma world.

 

Egan has taken a couple of drugs to market and made them blockbusters:

 

“He has been directly involved in helping to develop blockbuster drugs from two, bell-weather US biotech giants: Amgen and Icos.”

 

Egan doesn’t have to be here, he wants to be here, he believes Sernova’s Cell Pouch is a disruptive technology and he wants to ‘lead the charge.’

 

Your author, whose also an SVA shareholder, believes Kevin’s acceptance of the lead role in SVA’s business development signals to sophisticated investors that a sea change in the way Sernova’s technology is viewed by the market is imminent.

 

I’ve never questioned the science, never doubted Phillip’s commitment. We have the science, we have our business development lead, we have our own dream team.

 

I’m not selling and Ray Matthews has hundreds of thousands of shares stacked on the buy side. Those are his bids at .20 & .19.

 

I’ve had a lot of huge ‘wins’ over the years and so has Ray, we both believe Sernova Corp. TSX.V-SVA is going to be our biggest winner yet.

 

SVA needs to be on your radar screen. Is Sernova on your screen?
