A Healthy Change In The Air

Today I really wanted to write a blog about my new dentist. And I mean a happy blog, not a scary, horror story, set your teeth on edge blog. I just can’t stop telling people about him so decided to tell you too. He is a young dentist who works under the tag lines of eco-friendly, holistic, and great service at Heal Dental Care on the Gold Coast. And I have to say I agree with every one of those tag lines. The waiting room was looks on to a gorgeous wall of indoor garden, with soothing music playing and a lovely range of organic herbal teas on offer to help people calm their dental nerves. Yes, I’m a nervous dentist-goer.

On my way to the consultation room, I passed a wall of organic, fluoride free toothpastes, and by this stage I was thinking “Ahhhh, I’m home!” The consult was pretty standard, everything you would expect for a check up and clean, except he didn’t use a fluoride gel or cleaner, but rather one that was silica based and non-toxic.

He was still afflicted with the habit that many dentist have: the one where they ask you a question or try to have a discussion when their hands are in your mouth! So in this lopsided way, I learnt his views on amalgam removal, how he does it differently from the majority of places, as well as the detox program he recommends before and after to help speed the clearing of mercury from the body.

I also learnt about his views regarding the very strong link between heavy metal toxicity and adrenal fatigue, and his thoughts regarding tooth extraction, root canals and dental implants. All while I grunted my responses and strained to hear him over the buzzing of the cleaning thingy, and the swooshing of the suction tube. I must say, it did distract me which was a good thing.

All in all a very satisfying visit. It was the same price as my previous dentist, and I could use my private health cover. I am still scared of the drill (even the cleaning thing made me break out in a sweat), but the difference this time was that I felt totally safe, understood and cared for. I was confidant he was going to do whatever was in my best interest, discussing all possible options with me. I felt part of my treatment which gave me power, as opposed to feeling told what to do without having any say in the matter. It was a refreshing change I can tell you! Your dental health is so very important in your overall health, and many chronic health complains can actually be stemming from the mouth, either through low grade infection, or the leaking of heavy metals. For a healthy life, you really need to have healthy teeth.

So I’m a holistic dentist convert. In fact, as you can tell I’m a bit overexcited about having a dentist I am not afraid to see. This is a huge bonus because I have avoided going in the past due to many reasons, some based on fear, others due to the chemicals they use or what they try to tell me I need.

And just when I thought I was having a good day, I found out there is a beautiful new organic, natural hair salon recently opened in the area as well! Hair is another area I neglect, due to the chemical bath I end up getting ever time I go. I have not yet been to Amara Organic Hair Salon, but they use Grander Water Technology in their treatments! Oh my goodness!!! I am super excited to try this place out soon, and will let you know how it goes. I have very high hopes.

Recently there has been a bit of an influx of health conscious cafes, restaurants and juice bars opening up on the Gold Coast, and now with natural dental and hair salon options springing up as well, I feel there is a very healthy change in the air!
