Not serious at all. The normal mortality rate in any city would be around 8 per 1000 per year. In a city of 11m this would equate to 88,000 deaths per year if no-one new was born. Over the six weeks that the Wuhan virus has been active (Dec 19 -Jan 20) this would equate to 88,000×6/52 = 10,154 deaths. Repeating that…you would normally expect during the period of the active virus 10,000 people to die of all causes. It does not then require much ingenuity to record 132 of those deaths as being due to the virus, particularly if these are elderly people with existing illnesses. My point is they could literally make the death rate anything they wanted an no-one is going to be any the wiser. This is what I strongly suspect is going on because I do not see much urgency or panic being displayed by health officials in other countries particularly Australia, the UK and US and indeed there are NO deaths recorded in any country outside of mainland China. It is almost as though they are really reluctant to jeopardise the economy for the sake of a virus that they already know will not be lethal.
I agree its a Bio Weapon but I don’t think we are going to see wholesale deaths in western countries. Do agree they could be pushing economic collapse if it goes on long enough.
