While the following videos are from Canadian news sources and medical officials, the situation is global, and the provided information relates to what is the Wuhan coronavirus and the steps to take to protect yourself. Given the speed of global travel, Canadian officials have said they would not be surprised if the virus does arrive in Canada. Turns out they were correct.

This third video (27 January 2020) is a briefing with the media by Canadian public health officials on the confirmed cases of Wuhan coronavirus in Ontario, Canada. Canada’s first case of this new strain of coronavirus was officially confirmed, and Ontario health officials announced the patient’s wife has also contracted the illness. Both individuals had been in Wuhan, China, prior to their return to Ontario, Canada. An additional 19 people in the province are also under investigation for possible infection from the Wuhan coronavirus, with labratory tests being done to confirm the virus.

Common human coronaviruses, including types 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1, usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, similar to the common cold. Most people will get infected with these viruses at some point in their lives. These illnesses usually only last for a short time, with symptoms which may include

Human coronaviruses can sometimes cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. This is more common in individuals with cardiopulmonary disease, those with weakened immune systems, along with infants and older adults.
Other human coronaviruses
Two other human coronaviruses, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV have been known to frequently cause severe symptoms. MERS symptoms usually include fever, cough, and shortness of breath which often progress to pneumonia. About 3 or 4 out of every 10 patients reported with MERS have died. MERS cases continue to occur, primarily in the Arabian Peninsula. SARS symptoms often included fever, chills, and body aches which usually progressed to pneumonia. No human cases of SARS have been reported anywhere in the world since 2004.
The Wuhan coronavirus has been officially named 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
