Many children have been forced to be put on ADHD medications by schools, to be able to continue their education. America has been bombarded with prescription pharmaceuticals, and in many cases, as we continue to learn, their stated benefits end up being overshadowed by costly side-effects and even lasting damage. The medical and pharmaceutical industries profit immensely, often knowingly causing harm, yet sadly, this is often considered an acceptable cost of doing business.

Max’s story, more so than the others, gets to the root of the problem of ADHD in our country today by describing the environment faced by children in public schools and in a culture of conformity. Looking at this issue from an environmental perspective rather than solely as a matter of brain chemistry is the only way to find a solution more favorable than demanding our kids become potential lifelong addicts of mind and personality altering pharmaceutical drugs.
