Ten Things You Can Do to Prevent Teen Suicide

It is not an exaggeration to say that teen suicide is a crisis. Suicide has become the second main cause of death for teens and adolescents.  The CDC has a program called Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. The YRBSS works with thousands of school districts and tribal groups in every state in the USA. One of the areas they look at is suicide. The results for 2019 show a high rate of suicidal thinking and behavior amount our youth. The result of this survey shows that among teens in grades 9 – 12

• 18.9% had thought seriously about suicide.
• 15.7% had thought seriously enough about suicide as to have made a plan.
• 8.9% had made attempted to end their life.

While this is tragic and unacceptable, there is a lot we all can do to help prevent both suicides and suicide attempts among our youth.
