How to Use Calming Tea to Sleep Better

A warm cup of calming tea is a great way to wrap up your day, and wind down for the night. Calming teas are often recommended for their sleep and mental health benefits, and most notably, they can help ensure you’re able to go to bed without experiencing too much sleep anxiety or unwanted alertness.

From finding the most comfortable mattress you can to drinking a warm cup of calming tea as you wind down for the night, it’s important to try and get eight hours of rest every night for your wellbeing. Regardless of whether you decide to ditch the caffeine and commit to the tea here on out, or you’re just looking for some general tips on how to improve both your sleep and mental health, here’s everything you need to know:

Calming Teas That Will Help You Sleep

From teas that will help you minimize your feelings of anxiety about sleep, to ones that are much more likely to induce drowsiness themselves, there are plenty of options when it comes to reaching for a warm drink before you get some rest.

Here are some of the most popular choices:

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is a calming tea option that’s become an incredibly popular sleep remedy for those who want a calm night of rest. Many experts consider chamomile to be a mild tranquilizer, mostly due to the high presence of an antioxidant known as apigenin, which can help your body decrease levels of anxiety. Another way chamomile tea can be helpful is by ensuring you’re able to stay calm enough to relax for a good night’s rest.

Lavender Tea

Lavender is another example of a popular tea that can help boost stress relief. Research shows prolonged use of lavender can help with feelings of well-restedness, and its scent acts as additional aromatherapy which can help achieve a good night’s sleep, which helps even the most comfortable mattress feel that much cozier. Lavender has also been shown to decrease emotions related to anxiety, and is often recommended as a stress-reliever in general too.

Valerian Root

Valerian root is a highly potent tea that can help with achieving a good night’s sleep. Used historically in places like England during World War II to minimize feelings of anxiety and stress brought on by the raids, this powerful tea also comes in supplement form for those wanting a stronger dose. Smaller studies done on the efficacy of valerian root as a supplement for better sleep have also proven successful.

Other Ways to Sleep Better

If you’ve found the calming tea of your dreams, then there are other ways to ensure that you’re actually sleeping better. This includes:

Investing in the most comfortable mattress for you: Finding the most comfortable mattress you can for a good night’s sleep is essential for you to minimize the amount of time you spend tossing and turning in bed. How do you know when something’s the most comfortable mattress for you? Look for equal amounts of comfort and support in your sleep-in order to achieve an optimal amount of comfort in your rest.

Come up with a consistent bedtime routine: One of the most important ways you can ensure you get a good night’s sleep is by maintaining a consistent bedtime routine that allows you to support your body’s natural sleep cycle. This can be as simple as drinking a warm cup of tea, to reading yourself a bedtime story or even taking a warm shower before you go to bed. Whatever the habit, make sure it’s calming enough to prime your body adequately for a good night’s sleep.

From finding the most comfortable mattress you can to making sure you’re paying attention to both your sleep and mental health, you’re going to find a lot more balance and energy in your day-to-day life.

I noticed that lavender chamomile tea (I also sometimes add mint) really helps me calm down and improve my sleep. One of its best health benefits is that it is caffeine free. And I know that a lot of people use lavender extract in aromatherapy, though I didn’t give it a try. Though it also has side effects, I read about them here https://betterme.world/articles/lavender-tea-benefits-side-effects/ So, I’m glad that I’ve found your article, thanks for sharing.
