Real Researchers, Healers, Doctors; No Mercenary Science or Lies — Dr. De Kun Li, Henry Lai, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt: 5G/EMF/RF Father’s Day

Epidemiologist De Kun Li; Kaiser Research Links EMFs to Asthma, ADHD, Obesity, Miscarriage and Thyroid Problems, and the Colerectal Cancer Question

Environmental Health Trust reports,

“A 2012 study conducted by scientists from Kaiser Permanente Research Division published in Nature’s Scientific Reports, found that children who were exposed to high levels of magnetic radiation while in their mother’s womb had a 69% higher risk of suffering from weight problems and obesity during childhood than children with lower in-utero exposures. This study was part of a series of studies lead by Kaiser research scientist Dr. De-Kun Li, who specializes  in reproductive and prenatal epidemiology. His research group has also published research which found that higher magnetic field exposure during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of ADHD, obesity and asthma in the woman’s prenatally exposed children.  

In 2017, Li’s group presented his newest research at an international conference which found high magnetic fields during pregnancy were associated with increased risk of low thyroid hormone levels in offspring (low TSH levels) indicating ‘an adverse MF impact on the pituitary gland during in-utero fetal brain development.’

 In 2017, Li made international news when he published his second study linking miscarriage to EMF exposure. Funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences with 913 women as subjects, Li  and colleagues found that women who were exposed to higher magnetic field levels had 2.72 times the risk of miscarriage.

‘This study provides evidence from a human population that magnetic field non-ionizing radiation could have adverse biological impacts on human health,’ Li said in the Kaiser Permanente press release…

In light of his research findings over the years, Li submitted testimony to the US Federal Communications Commission about the inadequacy of current RF exposure guidelines to protect the public.

‘It has been demonstrated that communication between cells depends on EMF signals, likely in a very low level. External EMFs could conceivably interfere with normal cell communication, thus disrupting normal cell differentiation and proliferation. Such disturbance could lead to miscarriage, birth defects, and cancer.’ – Dr. De-Kun Li

Dr. De Kun Li has repeatedly written about the problem with FCC regulations and in his 2013 expert testimony about radiofrequency and health he stated,  ‘Any such claim that RF-EMF is safe, is either ignorant or misleading.’”

De-Kun Li wants to change the conversation on cell phones and cancer. Li, a senior epidemiologist and veteran EMF researcher, believes that brain tumors have been getting too much attention at the expense of other types of cancer, notably colorectal cancer.

Colorectal Rates Among the Young Rising in Many Countries:

Increases of colorectal cancer among the young are being reported around the world, not just in the U.S. — including many European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Just a few weeks ago, IARC reported that, between 2008 and 2015, the incidence of colon cancer among 20-29-year-olds increased by about 18% per year in Denmark, 8% in Australia and 4% in Ireland. While the risk declined in Canada and Norway, the rate of rectal cancer in those countries rose by 3.5% and 10.6% per year, respectively…

Li offers an alternative hypothesis: Young people’s habit of carrying their cell phones in the front or back pockets of their jeans. ‘When placed in trouser pockets, the phones are in the vicinity of the rectum and the distal colon and these are the sites of the largest increases in cancer,’ he says.  ‘My hypothesis could be proven wrong,’ Li concedes, ‘but this potential explanation is more plausible than any other current hypotheses out there.’ People should be made aware of the possible risks, he said, so that young adults can decide whether to take precautions and colorectal cancer researchers can weigh the merits of the case…

Over the last 20 years, Li, who is with Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA, has completed a number of groundbreaking studies on the effects of power-frequency EMFs. In 2001, he reported that women faced up to a sixfold increased risk of miscarriages when exposed to magnetic fields above 16 mG (see MWN, M/J01 and J/F02). That early work has been supported by others and there are now at least seven studies that point to an EMF–miscarriage risk. In other projects, Li has shown that magnetic fields can affect the quality of human sperm and that prenatal EMF exposure can lead to childhood asthma and obesity.”

Henry Lai, Scientist

Henry Lai is a scientist, researcher, and bioengineering Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington and Editor-in-chief of Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine for many years.

Lai and fellow scientist Narendra “N.P.” Singh were looking at the effects of non ionizing microwave radiation on the DNA of rats. They used a level of radiation considered safe by government standards and found that the DNA in the brain cells of the rats was damaged—or broken by exposure to the radiation. Lai has stated that cell phones were not a subject of concern when he performed the initial studies. Funded initially by the Office of Naval Research, Lai was investigating how radar, which emits radio-frequency radiation, affects the health of operators. “We did not really pay attention to the importance of this thing,” he recalls. But during his research, cell phone company Motorola Inc. indicated that someone had told the company about Lai’s unpublished results. Motorola asked to meet with him in his lab and at a meeting in Copenhagen.  Lai and Singh later told others that Motorola attempted to discredit their low-level microwave radiation findings in order to suppress them. Lai and Singh further concluded that cell phone proponents have funded their own research to confuse the subject and mitigate the influence of independent research results while suppressing further research that they see as harmful to the profitability of the cell phone industry. Motorola denied suppressing Lai’s research.

Other scientists including Jerry Phillips have also spoken about the experience of having their research results suppressed by Motorola and others. In a recent review paper, Lai has pointed out many scientific observations, including the following:  

“EMF can interact with other entities and synergistically cause genetic effects…. Most of the compounds that have been shown to interact with EMF are mutagens. This is important because in real-life situations, a person is usually exposed simultaneously to EMF and many different environmental factors, including mutagens.”   

“Two other important findings of recent studies are that the effects of EMF, are waveform specific and cell-type specific (Supplement 5 in link below). These findings underscore the complicity of interaction of EMF with biological tissues and may partially explain why effects were observed in some studies and not others. It is essential to understand why and how certain wave-characteristics of an EMF are more effective than other characteristics in causing biological effects, and why certain types of cells are more susceptible to the effect of EMF. The fact that “there are different biological effects elicited by different EMF wave-characteristics” is a critical proof for the existence of non-thermal effects….”
