In 2021, various stage three human clinical trials began all across the United States. In August 2021, The focus was on children aged five years to twelve, and the flood of applications from the parents quickly filled the available testing slots. The collected data is currently being analyzed by Moderna, the COVID-19 shot being tested.

The focus has now shifted to testing younger children; six-month old babies to five year olds, and no new applications are required since the August gathering exceeded available testing slots including those for babies. 

The Pfizer/BioNTech shot was granted emergency use authorization for children ages five to eleven by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on 26 October 2021. The CDC authorities followed with their recommendation of the Pfizer/BioNTech shot on 7 November 2021, and parents are already lining up their children to get the jab. Moderna is expected to submit their application for emergency use authorization approval of their shot targeting the same children age ranges as well.
