Bommanahal (BIN – IC): On Thursday, local police served notices on teachers in Bommanahal mandal against their agitations planned to be held on September 1. Speaking on the occasion, some members of the executive committee of the teachers’ associations said that their leaders had held a long 5-hour discussion with the state cabinet sub-committee but no progress was made. In the last meeting with the government representatives, the leaders made it clear in writing that they would participate and extend cooperation in the further discussions only if the OPS (Old Pension Scheme) is brought across the table, they said.

Is organizing peaceful protests undemocratic? Why delay in the fulfillment of assurances made during the padayaatra? Why inordinate delay in the cancellation of CPS (Contributory Pension Scheme)? Some teachers raised these questions after receiving the notices and expressed their displeasure over the ongoing upsetting situation.

As promised, the government needs to scrap the CPS and bring back OPS. Even after three years, that promise is still pending. Despite the request from the government representatives to agree to GPS, the leaders were not convinced. The assurance of cancellation of CPS has been lost in the memory of the government and is seriously weakening the morale of employees and teachers across the state. As a result, this tendency led the associations and unions to the organization of the protests at the Collectorates, Chalo Vijayawada, Million March, and siege of the Chief Minister’s camp office and other massive protest activities, some teachers said.

The teaching community appealed to the government to recognize the fact that the employees are always loyal to the government that cares and works for their well-being, work efficiently and happily with the best services and productivity.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is determined to do all the good for the employees of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The union leaders also submitted some proposals. It is noteworthy that the ministerial sub-committee in the last discussions held with the associations expressed the opinion that a positive solution to the problem should be provided soon after holding a series of discussions with them.
