WikiLeaks Redefining Global History - Speculation On Dynamite 'Diplomatic' Cables
Wikileaks Twitter account made two enigmatic announcements about its plans for future disclosures, and thereby, in usual style, confused the professional journalism sector. The comments hint at a future release of information that far eclipses the public interest value of 2010′s high profile WikiLeaks releases. So what is behind these enigmatic comments? Speculation, as a rule, should be discouraged. But since the press is going to do it anyway, it might pay to leave breadcrumbs. An informed guess as to the content of WLs next big release would refer to the WIRED chat logs (released here by BoingBoing) which allegedly contain the record of Bradley Manning confessing to the hacker, Adrian Lamo, about his disclosures to Wikileaks. Manning seemed to believe that it was the diplomatic cables that contained the information that was so crucial to the public interest. Their content, it would seem, is the crux of his case for breaking American law, and risking the 52 year prison sentence he now may well face. The extract published here would appear to suggest that, in fact, the 260,000 cables might be significant enough in terms of reform potential to be what Dan Ellsberg hopefully called todays Pentagon Papers at the Iraq War Logs press conference.
