Mexican Uprising Escalates: Startling Plans Revealed

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Mexican students and teachers, at an inter-Meritous National Teachers meeting Saturday with 79 schools represented, unveiled a plan to escalate the uprising that includes taking the Airport of Mexico City. The plans were announced following a night of Mexicans clashing with riot police after young people attempted to take the Mexican Palace in Mexico City after beginning to demolish it.

Among the most important announcement at Saturday’s InterUniversity Assembly meeting, at which 79 schools were represented, was the plan to take the International Airport of Mexico City on November 20, according to a Redacción Revolución post on Sunday on its page, “La Crisis De Las Amapolas.”

Amapolas are poppies. The red ones symbolize remembrance of soldiers who died during wartime.

Another type of poppy now symbolizes the root of the most recent massacre of 43 students from the town Iguala in the state of Guerrero. The state is a major poppy grower for the American opium market. The poppies are allowed to cross the border, are refined in factories in the United States, and then distributed to meet the high American demand for the illicit drug.

One result of the United States war on drugs is what Mexicans call the Mexican “Narco-Government.” Too many Mexicans have felt the pain of being ruled under that corrupt system feeding the drug war and related gory violence.

The protesters know the so-called war on drugs has proven successful only for international drug cartels, in the present case, refining poppies of the Iguala area in United States factories and profiting from the related porous U.S. Mexican border and the massive American heroin demand. Iguala is in the state of Guerrero, the most violent of Mexican states.

“We want this f******g government to die,” was a widespread chant heard Saturday night in Mexico City’s Zocala, according to tweets such as that by @MexicAnarchist.

Strikes, Boycotts

It was also announced at the national meeting that Mexican students and teachers will conduct a national strike on Nov. 20.

Other points agreed at the meeting was a boycott against the day of sales and discounts, known as ‘ Good Weekend ‘ to be held from 14 to 17 November.

There will also be a national boycott of the Central American and Caribbean Games from November 14th through the 30th in Veracruz.

There was also a proposal to construct a National Student Coordinator.  This involved students from the Rural Normal Raúl Isidro Burgos “which serve to eradicate state abuses.”

Release Political Prisoners Demand

The students and teachers plan to draft a resolution demanding the release of all political prisoners pending trial.

President Peña Nieto came into power due to media support, buying votes, and his promises to “boost economic growth and tackle drug-related violence”.  (See: Freedom for Mexico’s Political Prisoners)

Instead, Nieto’s regime has sought to sell Mexican natural resources to foreign capitalists, crack down on popular opposition to its neoliberal policies, and most worryingly, however, imprisoned a number of citizens who have stood up to the country’s violent drug cartels by forming their own community police forces.

“Far from dealing with the drug-related violence in Mexico, the government has in fact attacked and imprisoned members of the aforementioned community police forces, who had previously been successful in pushing organised criminals out of their communities.” (Ibid.)

Other major miscarriages of justice have occurred in Mexico recently. In May, paramilitary forces with links to Peña’s political party (PRI) attacked the Zapatista community of La Realidad in Chiapas, killing Jose Luis Solís López and wounding 15 others.

In June, Dr José Manuel Mireles, a leader of Michoacán’s self-defence forces (Autodefensas), was tricked into meeting with an army officer who arrested him after planting drugs in his vehicle.  Another 82 Autodefensa members were arrested soon afterwards.

In July, police shot and killed a 13-year-old boy and injured 40 other citizens in Puebla when they blocked a highway “to protest new laws that deprived them of their traditional rights”.

The next Interuniversity Assembly meeting date will be Nov. 15 at 10:00 am in San Lorenzo UACM Tezonco.   The post says the group “calls to continue with the actions established in previous meetings, the continuity of the boycott of multinational companies, debates, the subject of all political prisoners , etc. as part of an ongoing struggle.”

If the bloodshed Saturday night is any indicator of what is in store for just south of the United States, Mexico is in for troubling times, perhaps unprecedented.

I hope they get a revolution started, it will get ugly for awhile but hopefully they can take their country back, this needs to happen in America.

Thank you, Iam: Revolutions are bloody and horrible, though. Surely there’s another way to end the violence other than more violence.
