Japan to Ban All News Coverage of Fukushima – Ten Year Prison Penalty

Fukushima continues to spew out radiation. The quantities seem to be rising, as do the impacts.
The site has been infiltrated by organized crime. There are horrifying signs of ecological disaster in the Pacific and human health impacts in the United States.
But within Japan, a new State Secrets Act makes such talk punishable by up to ten years in prison.
Taro Yamamoto, a Japanese legislator, says the law “represents a coup d’état” leading to “the recreation of a fascist state.” The powerful Asahi Shimbun newspaper compares it to “conspiracy” laws passed by totalitarian Japan in the lead-up to Pearl Harbour, and warns it could end independent reporting on Fukushima.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been leading Japan in an increasingly militaristic direction. Tensions have increased with China. Massive demonstrations have been renounced with talk of “treason.”
But it’s Fukushima that hangs most heavily over the nation and the world.
Under the new State Secrets Act, the government could ban—and arrest—all independent media under any conditions at Fukushima, throwing a shroud of darkness over a disaster that threatens us all.
A year ago a Japanese professor was detained 20 days without trial for speaking out against the open-air incineration of radioactive waste.
Now Prime Minister Abe can do far worse. The Times of India reports that the State Secrets Act is unpopular, and that Abe’s approval ratings have dropped with its passage.
But the new law may make Japan’s democracy a relic of its pre-Fukushima past.
It’s the cancerous mark of a nuclear regime bound to control all knowledge of a lethal global catastrophe now ceaselessly escalating.

Wow, that is truly sad and disturbing news. I have always had a special appreciation for Japanese folk culture. A return to Japanese feudal rule is sad statement indeed.
My condolences go to the Japanese people on this sad occasion.
Terrible development, but not unexpected. As it is, Fukishima gets almost no coverage, almost completely disregarded, and is an enormous threat.
We all know what mess it is, and they’re doing all necessary that can be done. Publisizing it more won’t do any good at all and will just drag the peace of mind and affect productivity of the people…. raising more worries wont even help a bit in the situation hehehe

this is a about control, The governments of the world will not tell us about the dangers as they want to retain power for as long as possible.

Okay, time to cool down. Let’s all remember first of all Japan is not a third world country and is truly democratic. The press, media, and the people are free to say anything any time in any location. Japan is not returning to a feudal state at all, actually when I am in Japan I feel more freedom than I do in the United States. The Japanese government is not monitoring phone calls or e-mail at all.
This new law was passed by Japan recently in answer to Mr. Obama when he expressed concern about the state of national secrets in Japan. Every country has its own national secrets but up until this recent law was passed in Japan, Japan didn’t see any need to protect its own national secrets. Mr. Obama saw this as dangerous to the status of the US Japan relationship.
That 10 year penalty would apply to anyone releasing national secrets about Japan regardless of their topic. We an identical law in the United States. I worked with a top secret clearance in the Navy some 35 years ago but I am still unable to talk freely about some the things I did while in the Navy. And now Japan has a similar law.
Now, about Fukushima, let’s take a good look at what actually happened there. How many people died as a result of the nuclear accident? Currently, how many people are truly sick from the accident? What are the true levels of poisoned water or food because of the accident?Please provide these answers before coming to the conclusion that the Fukushima incident was the worst nuclear accident our modern world has suffered.
Of course it is disgusting that Tepco and the Japanese government lied to everyone and didn’t actually take the correct cautionary measures to guarantee safety. That is all true, but now to blow up what actually happened is ridiculous.
Yes, that along with threatened imprisonment for cyclists who choose to travel along the right-hand side of the road. Starting to see more of Babylon falling?
