Testing the claims that the Quran contains amazing “knowledge”. I can confirm it is 100 per cent man made.

I put out a challenge here:

I added: “Every religious leader is intent on POWER over his followers. That’s their only goal.”

A reader asked what my challenge was about.

I clarified:

Well, to prove that EVERYTHING stated in any religious book is true.

We already know, for instance, that the theory of creation in the Old Testament (which is also cited by the Quran) is ENTIRELY FALSE. In science if even ONE part of a theory is false, the whole theory is falsified. This clearly shows these are man-made theories, just like Egyptians and Greeks had their theories.

There are a range of claims made about invisible beings. Well, these claims need to be proven, as being actually there. There are hundreds of questions that will need to be addressed.

Etc.

My point is that in science we do not preach anything till it is proven. And then we preach that there is still a chance something better may explain things even better. In religion, people have NEVER proven anything, NEVER asked anything, and yet go about prattling their nonsense.

One FB friend interpreted this to be a question re: the kinds of scientific discoveries found in (his religious book) the Quran. That’s not precisely what I’m asking, but it is my obligation to sift through the information my friend has provided.

My comments are in blue, below.

INFORMATION PROVIDED TO ME:

“The following are some scientific facts found in the Quran:

1. Origin of the Universe

The science of modern cosmology, observational and theoretical, clearly indicates that, at one point in time, the whole universe was nothing but a cloud of ‘smoke’ (i.e. an opaque highly dense and hot gaseous composition). [The First Three Minutes, a Modern View of the Origin of the Universe, Weinberg, pp. 94-105] This is one of the undisputed principles of standard modern cosmology. Scientists now can observe new stars forming out of the remnants of that ‘smoke’.

The illuminating stars we see at night were, just as was the whole universe, in that ‘smoke’ material. God has said in the Quran: “Then He turned to the heaven when it was smoke…” [Quran 41:11] [Sanjeev: This is nothing beyond speculation. Anyone can say that there was smoke in the beginning. God CANNOT not so ignorant as to suggest that this is how the world started. God would at least know something useful/meaningful. In any event, the Big Bang is not “smoke”, it is  a singularity. Further, what was before the Big Bang? God knows, but Mohammed doesn’t. This is proof that Quran is purely man-made.] 

Because the earth and the heavens above (the sun, the moon, stars, planets, galaxies, etc.) have been formed from this same ‘smoke,’ we conclude that the earth and the heavens were one connected entity. Then out of this homogeneous ‘smoke,’ they formed and separated from each other. God has said in the Quran:

“Have not those who disbelieved known that the heavens and the earth were one connected entity, then We separated them?…” [Quran 21:30] [Sanjeev: This is a generalisation of the kind that “telepaths” and “clairvoyants” use when they tell you about your past. It is a meaningless statement of no consequence that will be true in ALL cases. Further proof that Quran is pointless babble; 100 per cent man-made. ]

Dr. Alfred Kroner is one of the world’s renowned geologists. He is Professor of Geology and the Chairman of the Department of Geology at the Institute of Geosciences, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany. He said: “Thinking where Muhammad came from … I think it is almost impossible that he could have known about things like the common origin of the universe, because scientists have only found out within the last few years, with very complicated and advanced technological methods, that this is the case.” Also he said: “Somebody who did not know something about nuclear physics fourteen hundred years ago could not, I think, be in a position to find out from his own mind, for instance, that the earth and the heavens had the same origin.”

2. Expansion of the Universe

At a time when the science of Astronomy was still primitive, the expansion of the universe was described in Quran: “And it is We who have built the Universe with [Our creative] power and keep expanding it.” [Quran 51:47) [Sanjeev: The fact that the our current universe is now (currently) known to be expanding also comes with an associated fact that no one has yet figured out what came before the big bang, and no one yet knows anything about black matter that constitutes most of this universe; and no one knows about the actual future even of our own universe – since black matter could have a range of properties not yet understood. Expansion is a tentative finding and NOT the end of science: just the beginning. But that’s the end of the Quoran. Just using one word “expand” doesn’t mean anything.] 

The fact that the universe is expanding was discovered in the last century. The physicist Stephen Hawking in his book ‘A Brief History of Time’ writes, “The discovery that the universe is expanding was one of the great intellectual revolutions of the 20th century.”

The Quran mentioned the expansion of the universe even before the invention of the telescope!

3. Origin of Life

Water is essential for all living things. We all know that water is vital to life but the Quran makes a very unusual claim:

“We made every living thing from water? Will they not believe?” [Quran 21:30] [Sanjeev: this is false. Water is not the only constituent of living organisms: there are enormous complexities involved. Plus anyone knows that water is ubiquitous. Obviously Mohammed did not know anything much. He could have talked about DNA/ the structure of amino acids, etc. No God “dictated” the Quran. Not impressed.]

In this verse water is pointed out as the origin of all life. All living things are made of cells. We now know that cells are mostly made up of water [Bruce Alberts, Essential Cell Biology]. For example, 80% of the cytoplasm (basic cell material) of a standard animal cell is described as water in biology textbooks.

The fact that living things consist mostly of water was discovered only after the invention of the microscope. In the deserts of Arabia, the last thing someone would have guessed is that all life came from water.

4. Sun’s Orbit

In 1512 the astronomer Nicholas Copernicus put forward his theory that the Sun is motionless at the centre of the solar system, and that the planets revolve around it. The belief that the Sun is stationary was widespread amongst astronomers until the 20th century. It is now a well-established scientific fact that the Sun is not stationary, but is moving in an orbit around the centre of our Milky Way galaxy. [Lambert M. Surhone, Orbital Period: Orbit, Sun, Earth, Conjunction, Orbital Node, Apsis, Semi-Major Axis.]

The Quran mentions the orbit of the Sun: “It is He who created night and day, the Sun and the Moon, each floating in its orbit.” [Quran 21:33] [Sanjeev: This is most obvious to even the smallest child. The key question is do these (sun/moon) orbit the earth, or does the earth orbit them. And what about the other planets? What about stars? What about the galaxies? Surely “God” knew something!].

The Quran would have been wrong according to astronomers just a couple of decades ago. But we now know that the Quranic account of the Sun’s motion is consistent with modern Astronomy.

5. The Ocean

The Quran uses imagery to covey its deep meanings, here it describes the state of the unbelievers as: “Darkness out in a deep ocean which is covered by waves, above which are waves, above which are clouds, layers of darkness, one upon the other. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. Those God gives no light to, they have no light.” [Quran 24:40]

It is commonly thought that waves only occur on the surface of the ocean. However oceanographers have discovered that there are internal waves that take place below the surface of the ocean. These waves are invisible to the human eye, and can only be detected by specialist equipment [M. Grant Gross, Oceanography: A View of Earth]. The Quran mentions darkness in a deep ocean above which are waves, above which are waves, then clouds above that. This description is not only remarkable because it describes the internal waves in the ocean, but also because it describes darkness deep in the ocean. A human being can dive no more than 70 metres without breathing equipment. Light is present at that depth, but if we go down 1000 metres it is completely dark [Danny Elder, Oceans]. 1400 years ago there were no submarines or specialist equipment to discover internal waves or the darkness deep inside the oceans. [Sanjeev: this is fertile imagination; no more. I’d have been more impressed if “God” knew about tectonic plates, about undersea geysers and volcanoes. Anything that takes real knowledge.]

6. Pain Receptors

For a long time it was thought that the sense of feeling and pain was dependent on the brain. However it has been discovered that there are pain receptors present in the skin [Michael Darmon, Molecular Biology of the Skin: The Keratinocyte]. Without these pain receptors, a person would not be able to feel pain.

Consider the following verse of the Quran on pain: “We shall send those who reject Our revelations to the (Hell) Fire. When their skins have been burned away, We shall replace them with new ones so that they may continue to feel the pain: God is Almighty, All-Wise.” [Quran 4:56]

God tells the people who reject his message that when they are in Hell and their skins are burnt off (so they can’t feel any pain), he will give them new skins so that they continue to feel the pain.

The Quran makes it clear that pain is dependent upon on the skin. The discovery of pain receptors in the skin is a fairly recent discovery for Biology. [Sanjeev: Are you serious! Even a child knows that pain is perceived through the skin. If there was something more informative about the human body in the Quran such as about the role of the amygdala, I’d have been more impressed. Surely, “God” should know something that a common man in Mohammed’s time didn’t! Why is God’s knowledge limited by the times in which Mohammed lived?]

Back to the point I’m making. I’m asking for proofs of what religious leaders/ books said. I’m asking for proof of ALL factual assertions. If something comes from God there can’t be a SINGLE error.

But, of course, the Quran is flooded with boo-boos. The writer would flunk a basic primary school science course today.

1. The Old Testament talks about the 7 day creation. The Quran accepts the Old Testament but also talks about a 6-day creation. All this is pure nonsense. Flunk. Fail.
2. We know that the Old Testament talks about Adam or Eve. That’s pure nonsense. The Quran has a slightly different version of the Adam story: that God made Adam out of clay, and he was the first man. That’s patent nonsense. “God” should have known that hundreds of millions of species came before man, and that man evolved out of trillions of random mutations. God knows NOTHING! That’s not true. So the only plausible answer is that this is all man-made, nothing to do with God.
3. “Noah … remained among the people for a thousand years minus fifty years” (29:14). This is just one of the EXTREMELY absurd things in the Quran. Prove it!

You need to show me specific proofs that the earth was formed in 6 days, that man arose miraculously out of clay, one fine day; and that Noah lived for 950 years. When you are done, please return.

Till then, I wish to ASSERT – without any fear of being falsified – ever – that the Quran is 100 per cent MAN-MADE and has NOTHING whatsoever to do with God (if any).

I ask you to ask questions.

The level of proof needed to believe in any religious text is extremely high. NONE of the religions passes even the basic level of proof. All are false.

All are man-made attempts to deceive other humans and gain power over them.
