The marathon effort to rescue a stranded whale on Tasmania’s west coast is to resume following an improvement in weather conditions.

A sperm whale remains stuck in shallow waters near the notoriously difficult entrance to Macquarie Harbour known as Hell’s Gates, following a mass stranding on the weekend.

Rescuers found 22 sperm whales dead on Ocean Beach on Saturday but were able to refloat another two stranded whales on Sunday.

Two minke whales and a sperm whale have since been found dead in Macquarie Harbour.

Weather conditions had hampered rescue efforts on Tuesday and Wednesday but the …
