48 of sperm whales were reported stranded on Ocean Beach a sandbank at Perkins Island, near Smithton, on near Strahan early Saturday morning off the northwest coast of Tasmania Saturday.

Forty-eight giant sperm whales
were on the sandbank on November 10, according to a report published in themercury.com.
Of the 48 stranded, only
two were alive Saturday night.
