20-foot 'butanding' found dead in Negros, Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – A 20-foot whale shark, locally known as “butanding,” was found dead by residents along the coast of Valladolid, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.

The whale shark was found trapped inside a large net.

Authorities suspect that the 2-ton whale shark may have had difficulty breathing after it got caught in the net.

Local fishermen and town officials helped in burying the “butanding,” which is considered endangered in the Philippines.
