Dead whale and calf on Black Point Beach, Nova Scotia

BLACK POINT – The municipality is hoping to dispose of a whale today that washed up on a Black Point beach this past weekend.
County Coun. Debbie Wadden said during Monday’s committee of the whole meeting that the whale recently washed up on shore and residents are wondering when its carcass would be removed.

Ken Bugden takes a closer look at the dead whale that washed up on Black Point Beach Saturday.
Brian Cullen, CAO for the municipality, said it is the municipality’s responsibility to remove the whale and it plans to do just that as early as today.
He said the whale will be moved about 700 metres and buried. The municipality is in the process of getting permission from the Department of Natural Resources to get an excavator on the beach. It also must obtain permission from landowners for a right of way to the beach.
Cullen said the whale couldn’t be towed back out to sea because it would be considered a navigational hazard
