Social Media Trends Resurrects Sir Winston Churchill From Beyond The Grave

Sir Winston Churchill one of the greatest Britons may have died 45 years ago, but from this moment on he is competing with Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Britain’s Twitter King Stephen Fry for Twitter supremacy. The Estate of Sir Winston Churchill’s has set up a Twitter account for the former British Prime Minister, including launching its own iPhone app, and will be using the power of social media trends to bring the former Prime Minister’s ‘wit and wisdom’ to a wider audience. A Facebook profile has also been created. This Churchill social media jamboree launched last week and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year. The iPhone app will go on sale for £1.19 with all proceeds going to the Churchill Estate.

Churchill was a British politician, orator and world statesman well known for his leadership of Britain during the Second World War and is widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders. He served as Britain’s prime minister twice from 1940-1945 and again between, 1951-1955; he is the only British prime minister to have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature and the first person to be recognised as an honorary citizen of the US. This move into the social media market and using social media trends are based on the work of historian and Churchill expert Richard Langworth’s called, ‘Churchillisms: The Official Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill’. The iPhone app includes photographs, more than 250 quotations and excerpts from speeches. A website has also been set up at churchillisms.com and his profile on Facebook already has had 35,892 likes.

Randolph Churchill, Sir Winston’s great-grandson, said, “There is not a day when Sir Winston is not quoted in one way or another, whether by presidents, prime ministers, newspapers on the web or by people in their everyday lives. This app is also the most superb opportunity to make sure the record is correct. The first accurate guide to the best of his sayings and shows just how relevant his thoughts remain”.

Churchill died on 24 January 1965,  and in 2010 his inspirational voice will still be heard from beyond the grave using social media trends…here’s leaving you with an extract from one of Churchill’s famous speeches rousing British morale during World War II: “We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.”
