My G. Uncle came home from WW II with a story that turned my family against the Red Cross forever. This was in France just after the war. He said on 1 side of the street the R.C. was selling apples to shell shocked troops, on the other side the Salvation Army was giving apples to these hungry for fresh fruit soldiers. True story, as God as my witness. I wasn’t going to add this, but the only other story he talked about after the war was about a battle. He and his buddy had dug a fox hole for the night. They both got in, but something was urging my uncle that he wasn’t safe. He climbed out of this somewhat warm foxhole aand dug another. The Germans attacked their position that night and his buddy was killed in that foxhole. He stated that nothing but the Holy Spirit could have been so urgent nor made him dig another hole. I know it was the Holy Spirit as does all of the family that we have left. I remember how afraid he was of storms, the thunder and lightning took him back to battle every single time. It was excruciating watching his fear.. But a lesson I will never forget. God bless our military and their families. War changges all of us.
