DETROIT, MI — If “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder wants to cast someone as The Joker in his new film to be shot in Detroit, he certainly appears to have at least a few options.

There’s now speculation, courtesy of TMZ, that Australian actor Callan Mulvey could be cast for the role.

Mulvey told TMZ in a recent interview he’s “sworn to secrecy” about the film and wouldn’t confirm or deny he’s at least been offered the role.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed in April that Snyder cast Mulvey for an unspecified role in the film, but added in its report that it’s one “never before seen in the DC Comics universe.”

A statement from Snyder in the Entertainment Weekly report about Mulvey:

“I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on 300: Rise of an Empire and was very impressed with his incredible talent. He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again.”

Mulvey has been listed on the Internet Movie Database’s website as one of the “Batman vs. Superman” cast members for several months.

Speculation about Mulvey’s role in “Batman vs. Superman” comes just a few days after reports surfaced that actor Adrien Brody could also be in the running for The Joker.

Australian news outlet Metro reports Brody is interested in playing the villain in the film scheduled for a May 6, 2016 release.

“‘I would do it if I feel I can contribute something valuable,” Brody told Metro while at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

Brody reportedly had a shot at The Joker role in the 2008 film The Dark Knight, but lost out to the late Heath Ledger.

Ledger died Jan. 22, 2008. He was 28.

Snyder already has a full cast in place including Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

The film’s title and logo were released last week and drew mixed reactions from superhero fans in Metro Detroit.

A press release for the film posted on Facebook mentions that “principal photography” will take place on location at Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac, other Metro Detroit locations, and parts of Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific.

Multiple phone messages left by for Anthony Wenson, Michigan Motion Pictures Studio CEO, haven’t been returned.

The “Batman vs. Superman” film is considered the most expensive movie to ever be shot in Michigan (the project budget is $131 million, according to the Michigan Film Office) and could be released the same day as the untitled “Captain American 3″ film backed by Disney.

The Michigan Film Office awarded “Batman vs. Superman” filmmakers last summer an incentive of $35 million for in-state work.

The film office expects the movie to create hundreds of jobs for crew members and about 6,000 jobs for extras.

Oakland County film commissioner Susan Dorris told this month the production crew and Warner Bros. are looking to “employ everybody they can get their hands on in Metro Detroit.”

A casting call for the film was held last month at the Somerset Inn at 2601 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy.

Casting directors sought “men and women at least 18 years old who are clean-cut military and law enforcement types or business executives in suits.”

Buzz for work on the film in Detroit has intensified this month as stars appear to be setting up shop in the region.

Affleck (Batman) and Gadot (Wonder Woman) have been spotted in Metro Detroit this month, and Cavill (Sueprman) spent time here over the winter.
