Double Standard?

Please read the piece below titled “Flier for ‘White Student Union’ Kicks Up Controversy at West Chester University.” The question is begged: Why can’t the White students form a White Student Union just as the Black students formed a Black Students Union? Do we have a double standard here? What if I, as a Yellow student, attended West Chester University decided to form a Yellow Student Union? Would I then be considered as the Blacks with a double standard, or would I be considered by Blacks and Whites alike as a racist?

 Our racist Attorney General Eric Holder accused Americans as being “a nation of cowards” when it comes to discussing race relations.  Okay, let’s take him up on that. Let’s have a frank discussion as to whether we should continue to promote and enable double standards in our society when it comes to racial matters. I’d like to hear from the Black and White communities to see if it is fair or not to have a Black Student Union and not have a White Student Union. Also, where do you place the Yellows of this country? Are we considered like the Blacks also to represent a double standard, or are we considered like the Whites who are accused as racists and who are just mocking the Blacks because they want to form an equivalent White Student Union?

 Let’s break this discussion wide open. Tell me why in our American society we should have favorite races to be given advantages over other races. I think you know where I stand. I believe in equality of all races—no one should be given an advantage over another. And, please, don’t throw the race card at me. It is disgusting how President Obama and his administration so freely throw out the race card. The democrats, liberals, and progressives are no different. They seem to throw out the race card whenever they want to shut down discussion. I am sick and tired of that. Can we not have a decent discussion without people calling others names and bringing all discussion of race relations to a fever pitch?

 What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.  If you scream for equality and fairness but commit unequal and unfair practices, where does it leave you? Does that make you a double-standard hypocrite or does it make you a reverse racist? I’d like to know the answers to my questions. Please start a discussion on these questions below.

Flier for “White Student Union” Kicks Up Controversy at West Chester University

Controversy is brewing at Pennsylvania’s West Chester University after students posted flyers on campus announcing the formation of a “White Student Union.”

No one showed up to the group’s first gathering Thursday after school officials who investigated the fliers sent a campus-wide e-mail stating that “there is no White Student Union at West Chester University, and there is no meeting,” local paper the Daily Local reported.

University spokeswoman Pam Sheridan said the fliers were part of an effort to organize people those are who against racism and are not the seeds of a racist organization.

Still some students are taking issue with the fliers while others are taking issue with the backlash over them.

Several students told the Daily Local they felt the fliers were done in poor taste.

“In my opinion, it seems like it’s mocking the Black Student Union,” Briana Rollerson, a freshman and member of the Black Student Union, told the paper.

But others say the students’ backlash over a proposed White Student Union when the school has a Black Student Union is hypocritical.

“So there is a ‘double-standard’ at WCU, a state university which receives funding from the taxpayers,” a Daily Local reader wrote on the website’s comments page. “Blacks can have their ‘own’ group who can sit around and discuss the bad old days of ‘slavery’ but whites, a majority on campus, cannot have their own organization to discuss the merits of Western European Culture which is the ‘backbone’ of modern civilization. Are you kidding me?”

A website purporting to belong for the White Student Union’s national chapter says the group was founded April 2, 2009 “to promote a new strong brotherhood of the white race.”

West Chester University has roughly 14,000 students. About 85 percent are white.
