New Bike From Old Parts

When I built my new Schwinn Paramount all-chrome, all-Campy Record single speed, I cannibalized most of the parts from my old Paramount frame.

So I was looking at it, and I got to thinking that I probably had enough spare parts lying around to build a whole new bike. Here’s the result:

Tektro long reach brakes, an old Shimano 105 triple crankset stripped down to the middle, 42 tooth ring, an old track wheelset with flip flop rear hub I’ve had for a long time, sporting a Shimano 16t freewheel and a White ENO 20t freewheel. A Nitto Technomics stem, an old touring saddle off a bike long gone, a SR LaPrade ripoff of a Campy seatpost, and Nitto Left Bank bars with Tektro MB levers and shellacked cork grips. Copper MKS Sylvan touring pedals and a Crane Copper bike bell complete the build. I’ve got a set of Honjo Fenders I’ll bolt on when the rains get started.

With that sort of gearing, this will be my singlespeed for hill climbing. Also good for aerobic rides.  Basically an everyday workhorse with a lot of class. It is, after all, a Schwinn Paramount.
