August 5, 2009,  Russia’s Gazprom to buy a controlling stake of 75% plus one share in their Kyrgyz natural gas company. In May 2003,  Gazprom and Kyrgyz government signed an agreement on cooperation in the gas industry for a term of 25 years.  An estimated $400 million is required to bring the state of the Kyrgyz gas industry up to an acceptable level.
Kyrgyzstan’s proven natural gas reserves are estimated at 6 billion cubic meters.  Kyrgyzstan produces about 30 million cubic meters annually as compared with an annual consumption of around 750 million cubic meters. http://shar.es/Ta7v6
