Obama: Brexit Voters Want Access To Free Market Without Obligations

The State Department is scrambling to walk back President Obama’s comments about the British getting to the “back of the queue” for a trade deal. But that didn’t stop Obama from taking a swipe at the Brexit voters while he was in Ottawa today. He chastised the majority of British voters for wanting access to free markets without meeting their obligations.

He had spoken out strongly in favour of the UK remaining an EU member ahead of the referendum. And in Ottawa he did not mince his words:

“I think it’s important to point out that those who argued about leaving the European Union are the same folks who the very next day are insisting: ‘Don’t worry we’re still going to have access to the single market.’

“So apparently their argument was not against trade generally, they just didn’t want any obligations to go with the access to the free market.”

It’s that type of attitude that brought about Brexit. Who are the British people obligated to? What’s wrong with them making their own trade deals and looking out for their own interests? Why should they have to answer to a bunch of EU bureaucrats for trade deals, immigration policy or anything else? They aren’t saying they don’t want to be cooperative, they just don’t want to ruled by others.

I wonder if Obama is getting his talking points from Christiane Amanpour or if she’s getting her talking points from him. Either way, it’s too bad Daniel Hannan wasn’t on hand to put Obama in his place as he did with Amanpour. Oh, and for all of you Trumpsters who think Donald Trump is fantastic when it comes to trade, um, no. He’s horrible. Imposing tariffs and punishing companies isn’t the answer either. I heard Hannan in an interview with Glenn Beck this morning, and said he was disturbed that out of the millions of people in the United States it comes down to a contest between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It is disturbing, and depressing.

Anyway, here’s Obama in all of his arrogant glory chastising the voters from our oldest ally. The way things stand now, they’ll have four more years of being chastised by a US president no matter who is elected, especially if they make the UK a more business-friendly environment than the fundamentally transformed United States.
