States Stand United Against Obama Administration’s Last Minute Federal Power Grab on Elections

It didn’t happen until after he finally left office, but Obama at last managed to unite Democrats and Republicans, in all 50 states of the Union:

All 50 state secretaries of state are urging the Trump administration to rescind a last-minute Department of Homeland Security directive calling state election systems “critical infrastructure.” …

Then-Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson surprised and outraged state election officials with his Jan. 6 action, just two weeks before President-elect Donald Trump was to assume the presidency.

Johnson tried to portray his move as part of the Obama administration’s effort against Russian government hacking of Democratic Party emails during the presidential campaign.

Shrillary’s campaign manager John Podesta was witless enough to fall for an obvious phishing scheme. Largely as a result of this, some emails ended up in the hands of WikiLeaks that were mildly embarrassing to Democrats, who justifiably dismissed the whole brouhaha as a “nothingburger” — until they lost. Since then, this incident has been spun as Russian hacking of the election, and exploited not only to delegitimize Trump, but to attack the integrity of our elections and the federal system that defends us from centralized tyranny.

[Johnson] broadly put all state election facilities under the federal “critical infrastructure” purview. His designation would affect all state-operated polling places, centralized vote [tabulation locations], election storage facilities and IT systems holding voter registration databases.

He also angered state officials because the federal designation would exempt future election activities from public access via the Freedom of Information Act or from state open record laws.

The “Russian hacking” justification is a lie. Election machinery does not connect to the Internet.

Critics contend the action was part of a long-standing goal by progressive activists to “nationalize” future elections with a federal takeover.

Other than Obama and Jeh Johnson, who would be in favor of this power grab? Only far leftists:

Support for the designation can be found among liberals and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Jan. 16, Rep. Hank Johnson, a Georgia Democrat who also is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, introduced legislation to support the designation.

Hank Johnson is the cognitively challenged moonbat who frets that the presence of our troops may cause the island of Guam to capsize.

“In the wake of the DNC server hack and well-documented efforts by states to suppress the vote, citizens are rightly concerned,” Johnson stated when he introduced the bill.

“Suppress the vote” is Liberalese for “ensure the integrity of elections.” Moonbats were listening when Founding Father of Progressivism Joseph Stalin said,

Thankfully, other Democrats are beginning to wake up to the benefits of federalism — now that they no longer control the White House.

In his last days, Obama certainly showed his true colors — commuting the sentences of a traitor and a terrorist, shoveling our money at terror-supporting Palestinians, and now this. America is well rid of him.
