Mass Shooting in Australia Despite Draconian Gun Restrictions

Australians live at the mercy of the government and criminals, having submitted to repressive gun laws — which did not prevent the mass shooting discovered on Friday:

Police investigating the mass shooting of seven people, including four children, at a rural property in Western Australia have confirmed they believe the killer is among the dead.

Even the lefties at WaPo seem to realize that tyranny has failed as an antidote to violence in Australia:

The shooting has rattled Australia, where lawmakers passed some of the world’s most restrictive gun-control laws after a 1996 massacre in Tasmania. …

As The Washington Post reported, soon after the 1996 incident, John Howard, who was elected as Australia’s prime minister that year, enacted strict gun control. Known as the 1996 National Firearms Agreement (NFA), the law banned the possession, manufacture and sale of all semiautomatic firearms and pump-action shotguns other than in “exceptional circumstances,” such as military and police use.

Critics of the hysterically draconian measure have pointed out from the beginning that it penalized law-abiding gun owners and emboldened criminals. As for reducing gun crime,

[A] 2016 investigation by an Australian newspaper, the Age, found that gun-related crimes in Melbourne had doubled over the previous five years.

The Age is no friend of gun rights either, advocating the violation of protections against warrantless searches to further attack them.

No matter how they tighten tyranny, gun regulations will always affect criminals less than their victims.
