Apple as Information Gatekeeper

The main reason progressives are not laughed off the public stage despite the obvious defects in their pernicious ideology is that they control the information infrastructure. This is particularly true on the Internet, due to the intolerantly ultra-left culture of Silicon Valley. Conservatives are consistently marginalized by Google, Facebook, Twitter — and also Apple:

Apple’s Vice President of Product Marketing Susan Prescott made an alarming announcement that Apple would be selecting the top news stories that appear in Apple News during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.

Prescott says stories for the feed will be “pulled together from trusted sources” and “handpicked by the Apple News editorial team.” By “trusted,” you can assume they mean “moonbattery-compliant.”

Last year, Apple announced that it hired to head Apple News Lauren Kern, who previously served as executive editor for the liberal New York Magazine.

Bias is already an issue at Apple News. It won’t be getting better soon.

Like all things liberal, abuse of power by information gatekeepers may lead to unintended consequences. Eventually everything regarded as a product of the progressive establishment starts to sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher. Fake news or true, it all gets tuned out as people search out alternative sources of information that leftists wouldn’t like.
