Where to Find the Worst Unemployment in the World

Yielding to foreign pressure to end Apartheid in the absence of a viable alternative certainly has made life into hell on earth for Afrikaners, but at least South Africa’s black majority is better off, right? Wrong. In this former economic power house, unemployment has reached the point where working adults are now in the minority‚ notes economist Mike Schussler:

Delivering the UASA [United Association of South Africa] trade union’s 17th South African Employment Report (SAER)‚ he said the number of unemployed had increased from 6-million to 9.6-million between 2001 and 2018.

As Schussler observes,

“Along with other factors‚ such as single female-headed households‚ this low number of employed results in much of South Africa’s poverty and inequality.”

Here I was thinking the culprit was the “legacy of Apartheid,” like they always say when they acknowledge South Africa at all in the mainstream media.

Post-Apartheid South Africa has the highest unemployment rate in the world. Its unemployment rate is higher than the USA’s was during the Great Depression. The socialist government’s proposed solution is to confiscate property from white employers. This won’t help.

Democracy is often an excellent tool for maintaining ordered liberty, but it is not applicable in all societies. More people in South Africa collect welfare than work. What happens when an unemployed, government-dependent majority has control of the government? Benefits will tend to go up at the expense of the employed minority; this enslaved minority will correspondingly shrink. Before long, the vicious cycle will eradicate the tax base. Then there will be no benefits, and everyone will starve, like in Zimbabwe.

This is the only way to achieve the equity that progressives prefer to freedom and wealth.

On a tip from Louise S.
