British School Bans Expensive Coats

Any correctly thinking person agrees that we must have equity. Since not everyone can afford expensive coats, no one should be able to wear them. So reason the Marxist educrats at Woodchurch High School in Birkenhead, England, which is “attempting to level the playing field for disadvantaged students” by banning Canada Goose and Moncler coats:

“These coats cause a lot of inequality between our pupils,” headteacher Rebekah Phillips told CNN. “They stigmatize students and parents who are less well off and struggle financially.”

The coats cost up to $1,200. Imagine how annoyed you would be if you spent that much on your kid’s coat and then he couldn’t wear it to school because moonbattery.

The school has a history of advancing equity. It has imposed a compulsory school bag so that no student may have a backpack of a more prestigious brand than another. It has cut down on days when kids don’t wear a uniform so that students will not be “put down” for their personal clothes.

This nicely summarizes leftist ideology, according to which everyone must be forced to be the same as everyone else, like blades of grass in a field cut to regulation height.

It isn’t just one school:

The ban on expensive coats is in line with a growing movement in British schools to protect poorer students. Initiatives have included banning expensive pencil cases and discouraging primary school teachers from asking students what they did on the weekend, so children whose families couldn’t afford to do anything wouldn’t feel embarrassed.

These suffocating restrictions are said to prevent “bullying.”

Getting back to the coats, since liberals take such an interest in root causes, they ought to consider the root causes of some children’s parents being able to afford nicer coats than others. Generally, this is a result of discrepancies in intelligence and work habits.

The welfare state is already doing its best to erode the work ethic. As for intelligence, lobotomies for everyone might create a playing field that is truly level, in addition to making students less likely to reject leftist indoctrination.
