Hodan Nalayeh Is Why Ilhan Omar Doesn’t Go Home

Rather than bitch endlessly about how much she hates America, why doesn’t Ilhan Omar take Trump’s advice and go back to her own country so as to help raise it to her high standards? Maybe she doesn’t want to end up like Somali-born journalist Hodan Nalayeh.

Nalayeh, who grew up in Canada, returned to Somalia last year to highlight positive stories about her country of birth.

She was among 26 people killed by al-Shabab militants in Kismayo on Friday. …

Nalayeh has been credited with showing a different side to Somalia to the stories of civil war, militancy and famine.

That “different side” turns out not to be relevant — if it even exists.

Somalia is not an uninhabitable hellhole due to the weather or the geography. It is like that because it is full of Somalis. As Ilhan Omar illustrates, the more Somalis we allow into the country out of suicidal altruism, the more we become like Somalia.
