One Reason a Border Wall Would Pay for Itself

Democrats tell us that we cannot take an obvious first step toward securing the border by building a wall because it would cost too much. Like everything else they tell us, this is a lie. A border wall would easily pay for itself.

Consider this, from The Law Dictionary:

According to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, the average annual cost of incarceration in Federal prisons in 2010 was $28,284 per inmate.

Then consider this:

One-fifth of all federal prison inmates are not U.S citizens, many facing illegal immigration charges, according to new data from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

There are a total of 35,009 “criminal aliens” of 180,344 in prison, and 60% are Mexican, according to an analysis provided to Secrets by David Olen Cross of Salem, Ore., a crime researcher who writes on immigration issues and foreign national crime.

Let’s pretend that the cost of incarcerating these people has not gone up in the past 9 years from $28,284 per year per undocumented Democrat. The bill for the taxpayer for this alone comes to $990,194,556 per year.

Then add on the cost of incarceration in state and local prisons, the cost of providing free healthcare at the emergency room, the cost of providing free education for their multitudinous offspring, and of course, the massive burden illegal aliens impose on the welfare state.

We could build the wall out of gold and it would save money. But it would not mean more votes for Democrats, so it is not going to happen.
