Outlook (Excessive Rainfall Possible Tonight Through Friday)
A warm and humid airmass will persist across the region today as a cold front sets up to our west stretching from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic. The front will approach our region Friday, bringing periods of extended and heavy rainfall with it as it slowly moves south through the area. A cool and moist wedge of high pressure will set up behind the front on Sunday and linger through Monday. Another cold front will approach from the west during the middle of next week.

Weather Hazards
Abundant moisture will set up over the region just ahead of a cold front approaching from the north on Friday. Instability in the warm and moist air ahead of the front may contribute to locally excessive rainfall, mainly in the period between tonight and Friday afternoon. Flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas will be possible at any location affected by repeating showers and thunderstorms, and small streams could approach bankfull where heavy rain falls.
These conditions will linger into Saturday as the front only slowly moves south across the area.

For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on recently downgraded Tropical Depression Chantal, located several hundred miles south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland.
1. A trough of low pressure located over the central Bahamas is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some slow development is possible by this weekend or early next week while the system moves slowly northwestward toward the Florida peninsula at 5 to 10 mph and then turns northeastward off the southeastern coast of the United States.

* Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.
