Happy # 73 Gene Tenace

We say happy birthday to Gene Tenace who was born in Pennsylvania on this day in 1946.

Tenace broke with the A’s in 1969. He was one of the many talented young players who turned the A’s into a power house in the early 1970′s. Most of his career was as a catcher but did play first a lot too.

Overall, Tenace hit .241, 201 HR & 674 RBI in 1,555 games. Most of those numbers came with the A’s: 121 HR. His best season was 1975: 29 HR & 87 RBI.

He was great in the 1972 World Series: MVP, 4 HR & 9 RBI.

We rememeber Gene Tenace, a member of one of the best teams in major league history or the 1972-74 Oakland A’s.
