Outlook

An arctic cold front will move east of the county by this afternoon. Dry and very cold high pressure will then settle over the county tonight through Wednesday, and warm only slightly Thursday. An upper-level low-pressure system will develop over the Deep South late in the week, with an associated surface low-pressure center developing over the coastal waters off the southeast coastline.

Weather Hazards

There is a chance of a wintry mix of precipitation overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. The temperatures will be near freezing, so this thing could be an all-rain event or a mix. Please be careful this morning and especially later this afternoon as temperatures drop below freezing. Runoff and moisture on the roadways could freeze and make the evening commute a hazardous affair. Please drive a little slower and increase your distance between you and the vehicle you are following to avoid getting caught up in a chain-reaction accident on potentially slick roadways.

A strong cold front will cross the area Tuesday morning. Very cold air pouring in behind the front Tuesday night will push temperatures down close to record lows, ranging from the upper teens to the mid-20s. These temperatures combined with blustery winds will bring wind chills down into the teens early Wednesday morning.

Macon County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 4am this morning until 7am tomorrow morning. The main concern for Macon County is wind chill values in the single digits and teens and the potential for ice forming on area roadways after this rain passes through. Please be cautious as you travel from place to place over the next 24 hours or so. You may be a good driver, but this does not mean everyone else on the roads is…and their poor driving could become a problem for you in a chain reaction accident. Please allow extra distance between vehicles. More details about the Winter Weather Advisory are posted below.

**Note** A Tropical Weather Outlook section has been added to the daily weather briefing for the Atlantic Hurricane Season, and since those tend to run long when there is activity, that section has been added between the daily forecasts for the four regions of the county and the almanac section so people can get to their daily forecasts with minimal interference.
