Rep. Waltz Honors Women’s History Month on House Floor

Florida Congressman Michael Waltz gave a speech today on the House floor where he honored women on women’s history month, and he shared his thoughts on being raised by a single parent mother while also being a father and raising a girl.

Congressman Waltz informed that the United States has “made progress elevating women throughout society,” but he also noted that there is still more work to be done “at home and around the world.”

Reminiscing about his childhood, Congressman Waltz detailed that “as the son of a single mother who worked multiple jobs while putting herself through night school, I owe everything I am to this strong, independent American woman.” He said that women like his mom “play a critical role in the history of every American,” adding that they “blazed the trail…for today’s young women, and particularly for my 15-year-old daughter Anderson.”

Waltz shared that he was “proud to be raising a young woman at a time when we’ve seen tremendous gains for women in our nation.” Citing the 102 women in the 116thCongress, Waltz also pointed out that local heroes are just as important. He explained that these “women and their contributions are critical to our success as a nation, but I also believe their strength is an essential part of our national security.”

Waltz asserted that “where women thrive in business, where women thrive in civil society, in politics and government, extremism does not.” So, in taking the time in March to honor women and their countless contributions to a growing and advancing society, Waltz reaffirmed the House that this month “must serve as a reminder that as a nation we have a responsibility to empower women to participate in every aspect of our society – not only for the betterment of America, but also for an example for the world.”
