Trump Pardons Gilmore
President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to George Gilmore, former Ocean County Republican Chairman, shortly before midnight on Tuesday. The President issued 73 pardons and commuted 70 sentences in one of his final acts in office.
Gilmore was convicted in 2019 for failing to submit his employees payroll taxes to the IRS and for lying on a loan application to the IRS.
The pardon was supported by the President’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, former Governors Chris Christie, Jim McGreevey, Jim Florio, Donald DiFrancesco and John Bennett, former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, former Congressman Tom MacArthur, State Senators Gerald Cardinale and Michael Testa, David Avella, the Chairman of GOPAC, Joseph Buckelew, a former Ocean GOP Chairman and Democrat power broker George Norcross’s business partner, Lawrence Bathgate II, Larry Weitzner and Adam Geller, according to a statement released by the White House.
Trump also commuted the sentence of Dr. Salomen Melgen, a co-defendant in U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s corruption trail. Melgen had been sentenced to 17 years in prison for healthcare fraud following a trial separate from the Menendez mistrail.
