Due to snow that has melted and water being frozen overnight, please use extreme caution on the roadways until temperatures rise above freezing. In locations above 3500 and places that do not receive sunlight (roads that on the northside of a hill, for example), this will not happen today.

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EST MONDAY…

* WHAT…Snow and black ice. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Wet roads will refreeze, becoming icy and slippery.

* WHERE…Portions of upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia and western North Carolina, near the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

* WHEN…Until 8 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Widespread black ice should be expected this morning, and may be a concern into the middle of the week. DOT asks persons to stay off roads unless absolutely necessary.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, water, and a warm blanket in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
