FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Leak of Supreme Court Opinion

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the leak of the United States Supreme Court’s majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and returning the issue of abortion back to the states, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“The left-wing movement has been on a mission for years to undermine the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. Last night’s leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization represents an unprecedented attempt to coerce and influence a Justice’s opinion and vote. In response, Chief Justice Roberts must make it very clear that this will not be tolerated, the leak will be fully investigated, and those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If this was the action of a law clerk, he or she should be disbarred and never allowed to practice law again. If this was the action of a Justice, Congress should consider initiating impeachment proceedings immediately.”

“For activist journalists who bemoan ‘attacks on our democracy,’ by reporting on this leak they have done much to undermine the integrity of the Supreme Court. Clearly, actions speak louder than words. If you thought that the field of journalism couldn’t go any lower, Politico just showed the nation that it is more important to advance the left’s political agenda and chase headlines than preserve the legitimacy of our institutions.”

“It also speaks volumes that not a single Democratic politician has come out publicly and condemned this leak. In a statement issued minutes ago by President Biden, he failed to condemn it. As for Attorney General Garland, he has remained silent. Their actions in response to this leak are unacceptable, and only encourage a climate of unprecedented actions to further one’s political agenda.”
