Key Vote NO on the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, H.R. 2773

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, H.R. 2773. This bill feeds Congress’s spending addiction by adding over $12 billion in additional mandatory spending over the next ten years.

The fiscal health of the United States is in dire straits. With over $30 trillion in debt and rampant inflation, Americans are waking up to the disastrous consequences of runaway spending. Every lawmaker in Washington should be working on cutting government spending and promoting economic prosperity. Unfortunately, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is yet another in a long line of irresponsible government spending bills pushed through Congress without a thought on how to pay for it.

This bill creates an annual $1.4 billion in permanent mandatory spending every year. Without being subject to the yearly appropriations process, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act will mandate over $12 billion in the next decade without any substantive offsets.

Ninety percent of this spending is to be apportioned to states and territories to carry out wildlife conservation and habitat restoration projects. Unfortunately for the big spenders in Washington, states do not need extra funds right now. Many states have more money than they know what to do with due to the windfall of federal funds that bolstered state budgets during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Pew Trusts, during fiscal year 2021 alone, states grew their collective rainy day funds by $37.7 billion, a roughly fifty percent increase from a year earlier.

Americans are struggling with rising prices on everything from gas to groceries. Lawmakers must address the inflation crisis by cutting spending and getting our fiscal house in order, not putting billions of dollars into federal government programs that should instead be funded and managed by state and local governments.

FreedomWorks will count the vote for H.R. 2773 on our 2022 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score any amendments, motions, or other related votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.
