Polling Reveals That Voters View the Federal Government as a Threat to America’s Founding Ideals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A national survey conducted by Scott Rasmussen from June 16-18 reveals key insights about voters’ perceptions of America’s founding ideals and how the current federal government poses a threat to them.

Highlights from the survey are as follows:

• 77 percent agree that the United States was founded on the ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance.
• When asked to choose whether more individual freedom or more government leads to more equality, 67 percent agreed that more individual freedom leads to more equality.
• 58 percent agreed that the federal government, as it operates today, is a threat to America’s founding ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance.

(Methodology: This Counterpolling™ survey of 1,200 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 16-18, 2022. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of Registered Voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.)
