Muslim City in Michigan Okays Animal Sacrifice

Liberal policies are known for producing unintended consequences. Some of these are so easily predictable that clearly the consequences were not intended after all, like the welfare state securing a voter bloc by entrenching intergenerational poverty, and the Inflation Reduction Act driving up inflation through extravagant government spending. Other consequences really are unintended, and catch woke social engineers by surprise, like the cultural repercussions of displacing the American population with unassimilable numbers from the Third World. Diversity is not as likely to mean strength as it is to mean animal sacrifice:

Hamtramck City Council voted Tuesday night to allow the religious sacrifice of animals on residential property.

Hamtramck is a city within the city of Detroit. It used to be ethnically Polish, but not anymore.

Muslims often slaughter animals during the holiday of Eid al-Adha and Hamtramck has one of the highest percentage of Muslim residents among cities in the U.S.

The all-Muslim city council voted 3-2, with Mayor Amer Ghalib casting an additional vote in favor making it 4-2, to amend a city ordinance to allow religious sacrifice of animals at home. After the vote to approve, applause broke out from members of the public, who packed the meeting to speak out before the vote.

They had more to applaud than license to sacrifice animals. Dar al-Islam has been expanded at the expense of Dar al-Harb.

Some residents and animal rights advocates have expressed opposition to the ordinance changes, saying they will lead to animal cruelty and sanitation problems in Hamtramck, one of the most densely populated cities in Michigan. They said they worry about people being traumatized by seeing the throats of goats, lambs and cows being slit in backyards, with blood splattering and entrails falling out.

An earlier version of the legislation would have required blocking the gore from public view, but that was removed before the council voted.

Ghalib said banning animal slaughter could prompt lawsuits against the city alleging civil rights violations.

Civil rights were once a good thing. However, the concept has been coopted.

Outside of PETA, liberals are not likely to raise a fuss about sheep getting their throats slit. As of September 11, 2001, Muslims are sacred in the liberal faith. Here’s an unintended consequence likely to cause more alarm:

At Tuesday’s meeting, some also expressed objections to the flying of a LGBTQ Prideflag on city property along Jos. Campau Avenue, saying it clashes with their faith.

LGBTism clashes with the Christian faith too; progressives cherish this as evidence that the Bible should be banned as hate speech. However, the LGBT agenda clashing with Islam represents a schism in the cultural Marxist coalition.
