GENERAL OUTLOOK

A cold front will settle south of the area today, with dry high pressure building over to the north. High pressure will migrate to the coast on Sunday, with a low pressure system west of the Appalachians bringing moisture back into the region on Monday. An extended period of wet conditions will then be possible through much of the week as the low pressure system spins over the southeast and brings several rounds of Atlantic moisture into the area.

More numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop from the southwest today. Some of these thunderstorms may be strong, with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and torrential downpours expected. A few could become severe, with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible.

Localized flooding will be possible with any showers and thunderstorms that repeatedly affect the same locations today through tonight. The heavy rainfall may continue at times through Tuesday, into Wednesday, and possibly through the late workweek. The flooding threat will increase through the week if this persistent, heavy rainfall develops as expected.
