GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry conditions return for the weekend with another cold front moving through the area on Sunday. A low pressure system could develop in the northern Gulf of Mexico early next week, bringing potential precipitation Monday into Tuesday. Very cold air settles into the area by mid-week.

A chance of snow before 10am, then rain likely. Cloudy, with highs in the lower 40s. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

* WHAT…Snow. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches, with a few of the highest ridges seeing 4 to 8 inches. Spotty freezing rain at times could produce a light glaze of ice as well.

* WHERE…Macon, Northern Jackson, Haywood, Madison, Yancey, and Mitchell Counties in western North Carolina.

* WHEN…Until 7 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Very cold temperatures and light snow showers or light freezing drizzle could linger through Tuesday morning. Additional statements may be needed to address ongoing slippery road conditions as confidence increases.
